Microfluidic cellular diagnosis

PROJECT DETAILS

DESCRIPTION : Molecular diagnostics are revolutionising the clinical practice of several diagnostic tests for infectious disease, oncology etc. Their effects are already significant in acute-care settings where timely and accurate diagnostic tools are critical for patient treatment decisions and outcomes. PCR is the most well-developed molecular technique up to now. This technique is geared towards a wide range of clinical applications, including specific or broad-spectrum pathogen detection, evaluation of emerging novel infections, surveillance, early detection of biothreat agents, and antimicrobial resistance profiling. At present, PCR-based methods are also cost-effective relative to traditional testing procedures. Current advancements of this technology rely on integration and automation of different steps (e.g. sample preparation), sensitivity and specificity optimization and on the capacity to detect multiple targets, simultaneously known as multiplexing. Automated multiple testing Cartridges developed by microLIQUID combine all the advantages of molecular biology (highly sensitive and selective and quick detection) with different types of sample preparation strategies and detection systems, to achieve a fast, multiplex and low-cost diagnostic device. The devices include specific design features and fluidic handling strategies to allow the running of very robust tests using small volumes of liquid typically obtained from standard PCR protocols. Our OEM cartridge technology combined with our Point of Care (POC) systems allow our customers to simply insert the sample into the cartridge to perform the test within the automated Instrumentation.
